E-Bike Parking and Theft Prevention: Build a Routine You Can Repeat Summary

Summary
Plan where to park, how to secure the frame and wheels, and what to record before taking your electric bike out.
Body
An electric bike can make everyday trips easier, but a route is only practical if there is somewhere suitable to leave the bike. Before relying on a new route, look at parking at both ends. Check whether the rack is fixed, whether your lock fits around it, and whether you can park without blocking a doorway or walkway.
Secure the frame first
Use a suitable lock to attach the frame to a fixed anchor. Locking only a removable wheel can leave the rest of the bike unsecured. If a wheel is easy to remove, consider a second lock or a wheel security option compatible with the bicycle. Try your setup at home so you know which part of the frame to use and how to position the lock in a crowded rack.
Make short stops part of the routine
A two-minute stop still needs a plan. Carry your lock somewhere easy to reach, and take removable valuables such as a display or pannier with you when practical. If your battery is designed for removal, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Removing it leaves the rest of the bicycle exposed, so secure the frame every time.
Keep a record before you need it
Save the frame serial number, purchase record and clear photos in a place you can access without the bike. If you have insurance, check its requirements for locks, overnight storage and reporting. A good routine is one you can repeat at the grocery store, at work and at home.
